How to insert a Table in Excel using a shortcut

Here are the steps to insert a new table in Excel:

  1. Select the range (or a cell within the range) you want to convert into a table.
  2. Press Ctrl + T to quickly convert the selected range into a table.
  3. Confirm the data range and whether your table has headers.
  4. Click OK.

Workaround without shortcuts

If you are not familiar with Excel shortcuts, follow the steps.

Select the range (or a cell in a range) you want to convert. Next, go to the Insert tab in the Ribbon and click the Table icon.

After clicking the icon, Excel will ask where the data is for your table. If your table has a header, leave the default settings.

Click OK to insert a table. As you see, the conversion was successful.

Using the Home Tab

To quickly format your data as a table using the Home Tab in Excel, follow these steps:

  1. Select the range of data you want to format as a table.
  2. Use the keyboard shortcut Alt, H, T (pressing the keys one after the other, not simultaneously) to open the Format as Table menu.
  3. A variety of preformatted table styles will appear. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through the different styles.
  4. Once you’ve highlighted the desired style, press Enter to apply it to your selected range.

Important: The comma (,) in the shortcut indicates that you must press and release each key individually rather than holding them down together.
